AYS Audition Prep Class

The Audition Prep Class assists prospective AYS musicians as they prepare to record and submit their auditions each Spring. Participants get a sneak peek into how to practice and prepare, as well as a chance to observe and play along with AYS at some of their rehearsals!

Classes will take place on Monday evenings in Spring 2025:

Monday 4/28   5:30pm-8:00pm
Monday 5/5   5:30pm-8:00pm
Monday 5/12   5:30pm-8:00pm

Schedule
5:30 – 6:45 pm: Class
6:45 – 7:00 pm: Break (with snacks!)
7:00 – 8:00 pm: Observe and/or play along with the orchestra

Eligibility: Musicians age 14 or grade 9 in the Fall.

Class Fee: $75

Session 1 – How to practice for this audition and other performances
– Participants may observe Anchorage Youth Symphony rehearsal until 8 pm if desired.

Session 2 – How to prepare for your audition and for being in AYS
– Participants may sit in their instrument section during Anchorage Youth Symphony rehearsal until 8 pm if desired.

Session 3 – Audition Masterclass (bring your instruments)
– Playing in the Masterclass is not required.
– Volunteers will be chosen to perform their audition excerpts and receive feedback.
– Participants may play along with their instrument section in Anchorage Youth Symphony rehearsal until 8 pm if desired.

Attendance at all 3 class periods is not required, but is recommended and is covered by the class fee.

What to bring:
– AYS Audition Excerpts for your instrument (available on the AYS Auditions Page).
– AYS Spring Concert parts for your instrument (provided after registration).
– Pencil, note paper, and water bottle.
